Artemis Racing arrives in Valencia

The first 3 containers of the 34th America’s Cup Challenger of Record arrived in Valencia on Monday afternoon. When we visitied the team’s base (the former Areva Challenge base during the 32nd America’s Cup) three containers were being offloaded from their trucks. It was not clear whether the AC45 yacht was inside the containers or whether more of them were on their way to the base from the commercial port. In fact, we don’t know precisely how many containers each teams requires in order to move all its equipment from one venue to another.

The Swedish challenger, to the best of our knowledge, is finally the only team to ship its equipment to Valencia from Auckland before transporting it onwards to Cascais, venue of the first America’s Cup World Series event, presumably on trucks. The team’s shore crew will now have their hands full, preparing the yacht for her first sailing sessions on European waters.

VSail.info will be in Marstrand, Sweden from Tuesday morning, for the 5th event of the 2011 World Match Racing Tour, until next Sunday, so we’ll miss the initial stage of Artemis Racing’s preparation Valencia. However, we will do our best to cover the sea trials next week. Stay tuned…
